Nexion Health, Inc., founded in 2000, is a skilled-nursing facility corporation whose affiliates operate 40 locations in Colorado, Louisiana and Texas. Nexion’s main goal is to provide quality care which in turn provides each resident with a high quality of life. Although each facility operates autonomously, they are guided by administrators, nurses and staff who are dedicated to upholding Nexion’s philosophy of providing compassionate care in each and every community served.
“When we started the business, we focused on residents and quality of care. From the beginning, we used VCPI because we knew we didn’t want to be in the business of IT,” explained Fran Kirley, President and CEO of Nexion Health. Nexion relies on VCPI to drive and execute a short and long-term strategic roadmap for technology across their enterprise. VCPI continuously works with executives at Nexion to help them improve their success from an operating, financial, and resource perspective.
According to Kirley, “there is a level of confidence in VCPI across our entire organization. Plus, we are making strategic decisions by leveraging VCPI’s capabilities.” Without VCPI, Nexion would have to hire technology experts and create an infrastructure. With VCPI, Kirley doesn’t lose sleep at night worrying about IT. “We want to move quickly and effectively,” stated Kirley.
Nexion’s investment in VCPI helps the company free up working capital to do other things. “Why buy servers when we can use the money to better serve residents and grow our business?” Nexion executives also like the fact that when they acquire new buildings, they can quickly replicate and scale the same depth of service and breadth of technology all current facilities enjoy. “VCPI helps us scale our business,” explained Kirley.
VCPI’s technology services provide an opportunity for Nexion to integrate different systems in order to reach a quality outcome. Achievements to date include a unified plan to protect patient health information, in addition to hosting all applications, IT support services, data backup, disaster planning, network monitoring, and more.
Nexion deployed the Decision Point™ executive dashboard to empower staff with instant access to mission critical information and proactive alerts regarding census, staffing, cash flow, and 5-star ratings per facility. “Decision Point gives us a high-level view of critical, operational, and financial metrics allowing us to manage our business more effectively,” explained Brett Bolt, Executive Vice President and CFO. “Real time alerts sent to our mobile devices lets us know which areas need immediate attention.” Emails and alerts can be sent to administrators and regional directors if, for example, census is too low at a facility.
The dashboard offers a concise view of key indicators and capabilities that allows companies to view individual facilities or regions. Plus, the Medicare 5-Star reporting feature tracks the 5-Star ratings for all facilities over time and allows Nexion to compare their facilities’ ratings to others in the same geographic area. “No other 5-Star service offers this valuable view,” according to Bolt. With Decision Point, leadership at Nexion can focus on the outcomes they want. According to Kirley, “now we have a great tool to monitor and manage our reputation in the markets we serve.”
